TRANSCRIPT
We see smart water metering really becoming a larger part of what the projects are and what the clients are doing. AMI, Advanced Metering Infrastructure, has a lot of potential to bring a lot of value to utility.
It's really about trying to get it beyond just being efficiency from a billing standpoint. Its about, can I use that data and that information to make better decisions about how I produce water and when I produce water. How can I use that same data to drive efficiencies from an operations standpoint? Can I also put that data in the hands of my customers so they can make better decisions that can ultimately lead to conservation from a systems standpoint?
Data analytics can help utilities by really gaining operational efficiencies. Some of those operational efficiencies can ultimately maybe defer some of the capital investment. The capital investments we do need, the data analytics can provide the background that we need to justify those spends in capital as well as operations.
Data analytics and asset management really go together like a hand in glove. It's that data that's coming from a smart grid that's from the meters and from the distribution system in the pressures and pumps that ultimately helps a utility make risk based decisions about asset management. If we can drive decisions about doing the right thing at the right time, that's ultimately what we're trying to do from an asset management standpoint.
